Uzbekistan to Reduce Social Tax Rate for Greenhouse Workers to 1%

Uzbekistan is set to reduce the social tax rate for greenhouse workers from 12 percent to 1 percent, according to a statement from the President’s press service.

Currently, the country has 5,100 hectares of greenhouses, with production volumes increasing from 110,000 to 546,000 tons over the past seven years.

However, businesses have reported challenges such as high loan burdens, expensive fertilizers, and interrupted gas supplies. Consequently, greenhouse operations on over 600 hectares have ceased, and 128 hectares have been transferred to banks due to debt.

In response, support will be provided to greenhouse farms, including:

Additionally, greenhouses will now pay land tax at the rate set for agricultural land, regardless of category. Until 2028, the social tax rate for greenhouse workers will decrease from 12% to 1%.

The Tax Committee has been tasked with analyzing where the gas saved by greenhouses has been redirected and its effectiveness. If the added value in other sectors is lower, the gas will be redirected back to greenhouses.

Furthermore, efforts are underway to address the negative impact of greenhouses in the Tashkent region on air quality, considering the environmental situation.

“Let everyone hear: greenhouses are a matter of food and economic security,” the President emphasized.

Relevant authorities have been instructed to establish strict control in this sector.
