Uzbekistan to Halt Passport Issuance for Two Years to Deportees

Under Uzbekistan’s international agreements, citizens subject to readmission will be ineligible for a biometric passport for two years. According to data from the Migration Agency, this is stipulated in a May 13th government decree “On additional measures to improve labor migration processes.”

The Uzbekistani Ministry of Internal Affairs will determine exceptional cases where deported citizens are issued biometric passports for foreign travel.

Readmission refers to the voluntary or forced return of citizens illegally residing in another country, or whose visas have expired, to Uzbekistan based on international treaties.

The document mandates that from September 1, 2025, the Migration Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers will maintain a unified electronic database of migration processes. This database will include information on citizens deported for violating foreign laws, or engaging in actions harming Uzbekistan’s international image and reputation.
