Uzbekistan Appoints New Ambassador to Turkey

Ilkhom Haydarov, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Turkey, arrived in Ankara on June 16th, as reported by the Dunyo Information Agency.

The diplomat presented copies of his credentials to Ahmet Cemil Miroğlu, Head of the Protocol Department at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Subsequent discussions at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs focused on deepening Uzbekistan-Turkey bilateral relations, comprehensive strategic partnership, and multilateral cooperation within international organizations. This included Uzbekistan’s participation in the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul on June 21-22.

Further talks centered on organizing reciprocal visits and joint events at various levels, including political consultations between the two countries’ foreign ministries. The development of trade and economic cooperation, strengthening business ties, and expanding cultural, humanitarian, and tourism links were also addressed.

Ahmet Cemil wished Ambassador Haydarov success in his diplomatic endeavors and pledged full support in establishing direct contact with the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) in Istanbul.

Prior to this appointment, Ilkhom Haydarov served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan since July 2024. He is a graduate of Tashkent State University (now National University of Uzbekistan), the Russian Academy of Foreign Trade, and the International Cotton School in Memphis, USA. His career includes roles in Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations (now Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade), as a trade and economic advisor, and as ambassador to Ukraine.

For 15 years, from 2009, he headed the State Joint-Stock Company “Uzbeken-gilsanoat” (now the Association of Textile and Sewing Industry). Concurrently, from 2021 to 2024, he served as Chairman of the Confederation of Employers of Uzbekistan. He succeeds Alisher Agzamkhodjaev, who served as Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Turkey from 2017 to 2025 and concurrently to Bulgaria from 2018, and who has since been elected Chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism.
