Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka secured the men’s and women’s singles titles, respectively, at the 2024 US Open.
The champions of the US Open men’s and women’s singles events will each receive $5 million (£3.7 million) as part of a total prize pool of $90 million (£67.4 million), which the tournament touts as “the largest purse in tennis history.”
This payout for the singles champions represents a 39% increase from the $3.6 million (£2.8 million) awarded in 2024. The total prize money has increased by 20% from the $75 million (£57.8 million) distributed last year.
For context, Wimbledon’s total prize money this year amounted to £53.5 million, with the men’s and women’s singles victors each taking home £3 million.
Players eliminated in the first round of the US Open will receive $110,000 (£82,400), a 10% increase.
Earlier in the year, the top 20 male and female players submitted a letter to the four Grand Slam tournaments, requesting a larger share of the revenue generated by these major events.
“The US Open has undertaken a deliberate and concerted effort to ensure double-digit percentage increases from 2024 in all rounds of all events for all players, while simultaneously significantly increasing the percentage of prize money for athletes advancing deep into the singles draws,” read a statement, external from the tournament organizers.
The prize money for men’s and women’s doubles at this year’s US Open will total $4.78 million (£3.6 million), a 23% increase from 2024.
The tournament highlighted that “for the first time ever,” the winning teams in men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles will each receive $1 million (£749,000) in prize money.
Additionally, the US Open will provide $5 million (£3.7 million) in support for costs, including travel and expenses, for players in the main draw. The prize money for the men’s and women’s qualifying tournaments will also increase by 10% to $8 million (£6 million).
The 2025 US Open is scheduled to take place at Flushing Meadows from August 24 to September 7.
