US Energy Drink Recall Triggered by Vodka Contamination

U.S. authorities are alerting consumers who have purchased Celsius energy drinks to inspect their cans, following reports that some were inadvertently filled with vodka.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning specifically for the Astro Vibe Blue Razz flavor of the beverage.

The product mix-up occurred after a packaging supplier mistakenly delivered empty Celsius cans to High Noon, a vodka seltzer company, which then filled them with an alcoholic product.

High Noon is also initiating a recall of select Beach Variety packs originating from the same production line. The FDA has stated that there have been no reports of illnesses or adverse reactions linked to the affected products.

The recall encompasses two production lots, details of which the FDA has published on its website. These products were distributed to retailers in Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin between July 21 and July 23.

The recalled High Noon packs bear the retail code UPC 085000040065, along with the subsequent lot codes:

The affected Celsius cans are marked with the retail code UPC 8 89392 00134 1 and the following lot codes:

These lot codes are laser-printed on the bottom of the cans.

“Consumers are advised to dispose of any Celsius Astro Vibe energy drink, Sparkling Blue Razz Edition cans displaying the identified lot codes, and to refrain from consuming the contents,” the FDA stated.

High Noon Beach Variety packs with lot codes different from those listed are not subject to the recall and are deemed safe for consumption, the agency added.
