An artist is on a quest to find a man who unknowingly became the inspiration for her latest artwork, created near the iconic Humber Bridge.
Emma Prempeh, 29, was seeking creative sparks during a walk along the Hessle foreshore in May when she encountered a man using a Zimmer frame, who she described as looking “really serene.”
Ms. Prempeh, characterizing the scene as “the perfect image,” obtained the man’s permission to take his photograph but unfortunately did not gather his contact information.
She expressed a desire to meet her muse, both to express her gratitude and to present him with the finished piece.
“I keep thinking, ‘Why didn’t I get his name?’ I wish I could locate him. To me, it would mean a lot,” Ms. Prempeh stated.
Ms. Prempeh shared that upon completing the artwork, she felt it “weird” not knowing the identity of her subject.
Describing the significance of the man’s image, she told BBC Radio Humberside: “You’re immortalised in a way, and it will live forever, and there’s a beauty in that.”
Ms. Prempeh’s current exhibition, titled “The Nearness of Elsewhere,” draws inspiration from her African-Caribbean heritage, intertwined with her recent experiences in Hull.
The exhibition is open to the public at the 87 Gallery on Princes Avenue and will run until December 19.
