“Tuhuṃ barak” Granted Geographical Indication Status

The Ministry of Justice announces the official registration of “Tuxum barak,” a traditional Khorezm dish, as a geographical indication.

The dish is noted for its unique preparation method, distinctive ingredients, and foundation in ancient culinary traditions.

“Tuxum barak” is widely popular in the Khorezm region and reflects its rich cultural and gastronomic heritage. Its registration as a geographical indication provides legal protection, safeguarding its quality and reputation, and promoting it as a territorial brand of Khorezm.

For context, a geographical indication is a form of intellectual property signifying that a product possesses specific qualities linked to a particular geographic region and its characteristics.

In January 2024, “Guzar tandir gushti” also received geographical indication status. Furthermore, “Gijduvan shashlik,” “Zaamin tandir gushti,” “Margilan adras,” and “Kokand knives” have also been patented.

On February 5th, 2025, Samarkand bread was similarly registered as a geographical indication.
