Trump’s Statement Could Underpin Deal: Aragchi

U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement that “Iran should not have nuclear weapons” could serve as a fundamental principle for an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.

As Trend reports Wednesday, this is according to a post by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on X (formerly Twitter).

He stated that this declaration essentially aligns with Iran’s doctrine.

Araghchi noted that the resumption of indirect negotiations on June 15th indicates a realistic possibility of reaching an agreement that guarantees the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program and could be achieved within a shorter timeframe.

“Such a mutually beneficial agreement for both sides hinges on Iran continuing its uranium enrichment program under full IAEA control and the effective lifting of sanctions,” he added.

It’s noteworthy that negotiations between Iran and the U.S. regarding the Iranian nuclear program took place on April 12th, 19th, and 26th, as well as May 11th and 23rd. These talks were mediated by Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi. The Iranian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and the American delegation by U.S. Special Envoy for Iran Steve Winkleman. The first, third, and fourth rounds of talks were held in Muscat, Oman, while the second and fifth were in Rome, Italy.
