Former U.S. President Donald Trump has defended Pam Bondi, the former Florida Attorney General, amidst growing calls for her resignation from some of his supporters.
In a social media post, Trump addressed complaints from critics who have accused Bondi of withholding information related to the late Jeffrey Epstein and his alleged associates.
The criticism intensified following the release of a memo by the Justice Department, which, according to some, failed to provide significant revelations in the Epstein case.
“Let Pam Bondi do her job,” Trump wrote, urging his supporters to “not waste time and energy” on the Epstein matter.
Bondi’s critics include figures such as Laura Loomer, a far-right commentator who frequently appeared with Trump during his campaigns, and Elon Musk, a prominent donor and tech entrepreneur.
The memo, jointly issued with the FBI, stated that there was “no incriminating client list” nor evidence suggesting Epstein blackmailed high-profile individuals, often referred to as the “deep state” by some conservatives.
The government’s findings were based on the review of over 300 gigabytes of data, according to the memo.
These findings follow previous statements from Bondi indicating the potential release of damaging information related to Epstein, including “a lot of names” and “a lot of flight logs.”
Many of Bondi’s earlier claims about the Epstein case and the possibility of concealed evidence had been echoed by figures like former FBI Director Kash Patel and former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino.
Following the memo’s release, frustrations reportedly led to a tense meeting between Bongino and Bondi at the White House, according to CBS News, the BBC’s media partner.
This highlighted what some observers have described as a growing division between the FBI and the Justice Department regarding the Epstein investigation.
Loomer claimed on X that she had been informed Bongino was “seriously thinking about resigning.”
Sources at CBS News reported that Bongino was absent from work that Friday.
Epstein’s death in a New York jail cell in 2019 has fueled numerous conspiracy theories.
The FBI and Justice Department memo affirmed that Epstein died by suicide, a conclusion that had been questioned by some within Trump’s circle.
Bondi stated to Fox News in February that Epstein’s client list was “sitting on my desk right now to review.”
However, she later clarified that she was referring to the entire Epstein “file” and other related documents.
President Trump’s frustration with the ongoing attention to Epstein was apparent when he responded to a reporter’s question with: “Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein?”
The Epstein case resurfaced last month when Elon Musk claimed, without providing evidence, that Trump appeared in unreleased government files linked to Epstein.
The White House dismissed these claims, and Musk later deleted the post.
Last week, Trump expressed disappointment that people were “still talking about [Epstein] this guy, this creep?”
“That is unbelievable,” he added.
