A third shipment of Sofosbuvir-400mg, a Hepatitis C medication, has arrived in Tashkent from Sharm El Sheikh, reports the Dunyo Information Agency.
Aligned with Uzbekistan’s National Program for the Elimination of Hepatitis C by 2030, these medications will be distributed to patients receiving treatment at the Virology Research Institute of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.
According to the Uzbek Embassy in Cairo, the Egyptian government has already delivered 12.4 tons of Daclatasvir and Sofosbuvir—medications used to treat Hepatitis C—in 27 shipments throughout 2023-2024. The total value of these pharmaceuticals is estimated at $1.4 million USD.
“Expert estimates indicate that the Hepatitis C medications provided by the Egyptian government generate significant cost savings for the national budget. These savings will facilitate expanded population screening for Hepatitis C and other latent viruses, enabling the complete eradication of this disease by 2030,” the statement reads.
