Prime Video has announced that the popular series “The Summer I Turned Pretty” will culminate in a feature film.

Jenny Han, the author of the coming-of-age trilogy upon which the romantic series is based, will return to write and direct the film, which is being positioned as an expansion of the widely successful franchise.

The third and final season of the streaming platform’s global hit was recently released in the US and UK, leaving its protagonist, Isabel (known as Belly), at a pivotal juncture between her former fiancé, Jeremiah, and his brother and romantic rival, Conrad.

While plot details for the movie remain undisclosed, the studio has indicated that it will serve as the concluding chapter of Belly’s narrative.

“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han stated.

She also expressed gratitude to Prime Video for their support of her vision for the story, enabling her to share the final chapter with the series’ dedicated fanbase.

Following the series’ emotional finale, the announcement of the film adaptation was made during the Season 3 premiere celebration in Paris on Wednesday.

Series lead Lola Tung (Belly) was photographed on the red carpet alongside co-star Christopher Briney (Conrad), in front of a billboard promoting the upcoming film.

The multigenerational drama, which premiered in 2022, chronicles Belly’s love triangle with the two brothers.

It has emerged as one of the year’s most discussed television programs, cultivating a passionate fan base fueled by the intense Team Conrad versus Jeremiah debate.

This fervor also led to online abuse directed at the series’ main actors, prompting Han to urge fans to “start acting normal online.”

“The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation,” remarked Courtenay Valenti of Amazon MGM Studios and Vernon Sanders of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.

“We’re proud of the series’ extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.”

Organisers say each screening will be followed a discussion and a vegetarian or vegan meal.

The actor says his latest film, One Battle After Another, “holds a mirror up to society”.

The Sea follows a boy from the occupied West Bank who wants to visit Tel Aviv to see the sea for the first time.

State visits are often seen as an opportunity to exercise “sartorial diplomacy” on the world stage.

The acting star was famous for roles in The Sting and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
