First-look images have been unveiled from Netflix’s upcoming thriller, featuring Welsh actor Taron Egerton.
The Bafta-nominated actor’s latest project, Apex, sees him starring alongside Hollywood icon Charlize Theron in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse.
Set against the backdrop of the Australian wilderness, Egerton portrays a serial killer pursuing Theron’s character, an adrenaline junkie seeking thrills.
The survival thriller is slated for release on the streaming platform on April 24.
Widely recognized for his portrayal of Elton John in Rocketman, Egerton sports a shaved head in the newly released stills from the action-packed film.
The images also showcase the breathtaking scenery of New South Wales, where principal photography took place in the Blue Mountains region and Sydney in early 2025.
This marks the second Netflix collaboration for Egerton, who was raised in Aberystwyth, following his appearance in the Christmas-themed action film Carry-on in 2024.
The all-star cast also includes Eric Bana, known for his portrayal of the Hulk in the 2003 Marvel film.
Speaking with Netflix’s fan hub Tudum, director Baltasar Kormákur remarked: “Working in the rugged, beautiful terrains of Australia with three of the world’s most talented, dedicated actors in Charlize Theron, Taron Egerton, and Eric Bana is such a joy – even as I put them through the [ringer] in this unique survivor story.”
Originally hailing from Birkenhead, Egerton relocated to Anglesey before settling in Aberystwyth at the age of 12, a place he now considers home.
Egerton is a familiar face to action film enthusiasts, having made his debut in the popular Kingsman franchise in 2014.
He rose to international prominence after winning a Golden Globe for his performance in Rocketman.
Following a Grammy nomination for his work on the film’s soundtrack, he told BBC Wales that he attributes his passion for singing to his Welsh upbringing.
Theron is one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actresses, having won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Aileen Wuornos in the 2003 film, Monster.
The latest instalment of the 28 Days Later horror franchise is the first of the series to have a female director.
She oversaw the expansion of the franchise, including five feature films and new TV shows.
The Seven Dials Mystery stars Helena Bonham-Carter and Martin Freeman – who stayed in West Somerset.
Chase Infiniti, Miles Caton and Robert Aramayo are among the nominees for the Bafta Rising Star Award.
