Swansea Poised to Name Sheehan as Permanent Manager

Alan Sheehan has secured 34 points from 19 matches over two separate stints as Swansea City’s interim manager.

Swansea City are preparing to name Alan Sheehan as their permanent head coach after a notable run as caretaker.

Sheehan, 38, has earned plaudits since assuming command in mid-February, following the exit of Luke Williams.

Williams had departed with Swansea facing the threat of relegation, after a concerning sequence of seven losses in nine Championship matches.

Under Sheehan’s guidance, however, the team is now assured a top-half finish, having amassed 23 points from the 12 matches under his leadership.

Sheehan was initially appointed for five games before agreeing in March to continue for the remainder of the campaign.

Overlooking Sheehan? Now a significant decision

Darling missed Millwall due to ‘accident’

Following last Saturday’s defeat at Millwall, Sheehan confirmed discussions concerning a long-term deal had taken place and said a decision regarding his future would be made this week.

He has consistently expressed interest in the permanent position but has also emphasised the need for alignment between his vision and that of the club.

Previously on the coaching staff at Luton Town and Southampton, Sheehan arrived at Swansea as assistant head coach in the summer of 2023.

Initially a member of Michael Duff’s backroom team, Sheehan first stepped in as caretaker manager in December 2023, guiding the side to 11 points from seven matches ahead of Williams’ appointment last January.

He then resumed his duties as assistant before stepping up for a second time when Williams departed.

When Sheehan took over, Swansea were in 17th place, eight points above the relegation zone, but have since surged to 11th after a notable improvement in results.

Despite the defeat at Millwall ending their slim play-off hopes, Swansea conclude the season at home against Oxford United on Saturday (12:30 BST).
