Swansea City have secured the signing of experienced defender Cameron Burgess from Ipswich Town on a three-year contract. The 29-year-old Australian international, who boasts 17 caps for his country, joins after a successful spell with the Tractor Boys.
Burgess’s arrival strengthens Swansea’s defensive options.
Swansea City head coach, Alan Sheehan, expressed his delight at securing Burgess’s services, highlighting his consistent performance and rise through the football leagues to international recognition. Sheehan emphasized Burgess’s alignment with the club’s vision and his anticipated positive impact both on and off the pitch.
Burgess, a Scotland-born centre-back, becomes Swansea’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window, following the additions of Ricardo Santos, Zeidane Inoussa, and Bobby Wales. The club also recently welcomed Swedish international Melker Widell.
Before joining Ipswich, Burgess’s career path included spells at Fulham, Scunthorpe United, and various loan assignments. He played a key role in Ipswich’s promotions, culminating in their recent Premier League campaign. Last season, he contributed significantly, making 22 appearances across all competitions for Ipswich.
Swansea City director of football, Richard Montague, echoed Sheehan’s enthusiasm, emphasizing the high level of competition for Burgess’s signature and celebrating his decision to join Swansea. Montague highlighted Burgess’s Premier League experience and recent successes as valuable assets to the team.
Burgess’s recent contribution to Australia’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup further underscores his abilities.
