Despite a valiant 64 from England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, the Trent Rockets fell short, losing by 11 runs to the Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.

In pursuit of 149, Sciver-Brunt anchored the innings as wickets tumbled around her, with four Rockets batters dismissed for single-digit scores.

Her 40-ball innings, punctuated by eight boundaries and a six, briefly raised hopes of a Rockets victory, but a stunning catch by Millie Taylor off Em Arlott in the 96th ball extinguished those hopes.

The visiting side ultimately concluded their innings at 137-6.

Earlier, Emma Lamb spearheaded the Birmingham Phoenix batting effort, with the opening batter scoring a crucial 55 and forging a 50-run partnership with Ellyse Perry for the second wicket.

Ailsa Lister and Marie Kelly contributed a further 37 runs after a mid-innings stumble, propelling Phoenix to a total of 148-5.

Lamb’s impressive form throughout the summer earned her a recall to the England squad, a testament to her prolific run-scoring.

After four seasons with the Manchester Originals, the 27-year-old marked her debut with her new team with her 16th score of 50 or more this season.

Her 32-ball innings included nine fours, displaying her comfort against the Rockets’ Australian spin duo of Ash Gardner and Alana King through both conventional and reverse sweeps.

Lamb reached her half-century in just 28 balls, her second in the competition and the fastest of her career.

Having reached the milestone, she appeared poised for a substantial score, but ultimately miscued Gardner’s delivery to King on the mid-wicket boundary.

This triggered a period of pressure from the Rockets, as Phoenix lost three wickets for just 10 runs. However, Lamb’s earlier contribution proved decisive in setting a target that the visiting side ultimately failed to reach.

Nat Sciver-Brunt recorded her eighth half-century in The Hundred.

Saturday features a packed schedule with double-headers at The Oval and in Cardiff.
