Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, sustained injuries in a car accident in New Hampshire, according to reports.
Local authorities confirmed that the incident occurred in Manchester on Saturday evening, involving a Ford Bronco in which Giuliani was a passenger.
A statement from Michael Ragusa, Giuliani’s security guard, detailed the injuries: “He was diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg.”
Giuliani, 81, gained prominence as “America’s Mayor” for his leadership during the 9/11 attacks. He later served as an advisor and personal attorney to Donald Trump, though their association has since ended.
Police stated that all parties involved suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Mr. Ragusa’s statement also indicated that the incident transpired shortly after Giuliani assisted an alleged victim of domestic violence who had sought his help on the roadside.
“Mayor Giuliani immediately rendered assistance and contacted 911,” Mr. Ragusa stated.
New Hampshire law enforcement officials verified that they were investigating a reported domestic violence case when they witnessed the collision on the opposite side of the road.
“As a result of the collision, both vehicles went into the median and were heavily damaged,” police officials noted.
Investigators have identified the driver allegedly responsible for striking Giuliani’s vehicle; however, no charges have been filed as the investigation remains ongoing.
Giuliani’s tenure as New York City mayor began in 1993, placing him in office during the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center.
In 2008, he launched an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. presidency. Subsequently, he became an advisor to Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign and joined Trump’s personal legal team in 2018, remaining until after the 2020 election.
Following Joe Biden’s victory over Trump in 2020, Giuliani propagated unsubstantiated claims of election fraud.
Earlier this year, he reached a tentative settlement with two former election workers who won $148m (£120m) in damages after they successfully sued him for defamation over false election fraud claims.
