A former vocalist who performed with Spandau Ballet has been convicted of rape and attempted rape.

Ross Davidson, known professionally as Ross Wild, briefly sang with the 1980s band Spandau Ballet in 2018. He also appeared in the West End musical “We Will Rock You,” based on the music of Queen.

The 37-year-old, from Finchley, North London, had entered a not guilty plea regarding the rape of a woman in London in March 2015. He also denied charges of attempted rape and sexual assault against another woman in Thailand in December 2019.

Following deliberations lasting over 11 hours, jurors at Wood Green Crown Court found him guilty on all counts.

Detective Constable Kamila Kedadrova of the Metropolitan Police characterized the Aberdeen-born singer as “a prolific offender who carried out cowardly and opportunistic assaults against his victims” in the wake of the convictions.

During the trial, prosecutor Richard Hearnden stated that while Davidson had cultivated an image as “a bit of a sex symbol,” the two women encountered “a much darker side that they did not notice, at least at first”.

Davidson met both women through the dating application Tinder, and he maintained that all sexual contact was consensual.

The rape victim testified that she awoke to Davidson assaulting her while she was sleeping in his bed at his London residence. She described feeling “helpless” and “scared to react.”

She further stated that Davidson expressed interest in the idea of sex with “a person in a helpless state, someone not moving.”

Davidson described himself as “sex positive,” explaining that he understood the term to mean having “open dialogue” and being “open minded about people’s predilections.”

Davidson had previously pleaded guilty to voyeurism in connection with the incident involving the woman in Thailand in December 2019, admitting to secretly filming her while she slept.

Detectives were able to identify her after discovering a video on Davidson’s phone which, according to the prosecution, depicted her being touched while “asleep, still and unresponsive” and “at least half naked” in the hotel room.

She told the court she was unaware of the footage’s existence until that point.

Davidson admitted to the voyeurism charge but denied sexual assault and attempted rape.

He stated that he created the video for “selfish reasons, for sexual gratification,” telling the jury he wished he “had never done it.”

The court was informed that Davidson had been found guilty of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and voyeurism in a prior trial.

He is scheduled to be sentenced for his most recent convictions at a later date.
