McIlroy Cards Three Consecutive Birdies to Seize Joint Lead
McIlroy initiated his Masters campaign with an impressive opening round of 67, highlighted by a remarkable streak of three consecutive birdies on the back nine, placing him in a tie for the lead with American Sam Burns.
Following successful shots on the 13th and 14th holes, McIlroy faced the par-five 15th. While his third shot, landing 29 feet from the pin, wasn’t his most precise, the ensuing moment proved to be perfection.
The ball gracefully curved from left to right, finding the bottom of the cup and eliciting a restrained fist pump from McIlroy.
He concluded the day sharing the top spot on the leaderboard.

McIlroy Chips In on 17 to Extend Masters Advantage
There’s an undeniable allure in witnessing an athlete at the zenith of their abilities, performing on one of the sport’s most revered stages.
This was precisely the spectacle on display during the back nine of McIlroy’s second round on Friday, as he delivered a scintillating performance, carding six birdies in seven holes.
The undeniable highlight was his chip-in on the 17th, after an errant shot that landed a considerable distance to the right of the green.
However, with a delicate touch and the flag positioned on the far side of the green, his effort from nearly 30 yards was executed flawlessly, bouncing once before rolling directly into the cup.
This time, the celebration was more pronounced, as he raised his arm, club still in hand, to the resounding cheers of the crowd.
Another birdie followed on the final hole, and his second round of 65 established a Masters record six-stroke lead after 36 holes.

McIlroy Sinks Consecutive Birdies to Forge Three-Shot Lead
Just 24 hours after his record-breaking round, McIlroy’s advantage evaporated as he struggled to a one-over 73 on Saturday.
His hopes appeared to diminish further on Sunday with a double bogey and a bogey in the first six holes, but McIlroy rallied and began to climb back up the leaderboard.
The turning point arrived at the 12th at Amen Corner, where the 36-year-old placed his tee shot on the 155-yard par three just under seven feet from the hole.
No other player came as close to the pin all day, and he confidently sank the putt to establish a two-stroke lead as Cameron Young missed his attempt to keep pace.
McIlroy never looked back, following up with another birdie at 13. Amen Corner was conquered, and McIlroy was on the path to victory.
McIlroy’s shot on the 16th, when he putted the ball off the green to within a foot of the hole, all but secured his second win at Augusta
A late surge from world number one Scottie Scheffler – a two-time major champion – applied pressure on McIlroy, closing the gap to within two shots.
McIlroy, fueled by adrenaline, unleashed his tee shot on the 170-yard par three 16th, sending it beyond the pin and off the back of the green.
It wasn’t quite as far off target as Tiger Woods’ famed chip-in in 2005, but the parallels were undeniable.
McIlroy opted to putt, executing a beautifully paced shot onto the green, allowing the contours to guide the ball toward the flag.
He judged it almost perfectly, the ball stopping a foot from the hole. Moments later, he tapped in for a crucial par that maintained his two-shot lead with two holes remaining.
After an 11-year wait between his previous two major titles, a second in the space of a year was within his grasp.

The Moment Rory McIlroy Retained His Masters Title
It will arguably be the best bogey of McIlroy’s career.
With a two-shot lead on the 18th tee, the job was nearly complete, but McIlroy’s wild swipe sent his ball veering right into the trees.
Suddenly, hearts were racing once more.
After what seemed like an eternity, as he attempted to direct thousands of spectators away from his intended line of attack to the green, he powerfully struck the ball out of the pine straw and into a greenside bunker.
It was a pivotal moment. Another errant swing could have easily resulted in a double bogey and a play-off with Scheffler.
He followed with a strong shot from the sand, landing the ball 12 feet from the hole. With two putts to secure the title, he calmly executed both.
The final stroke, from seven inches, was the length that all players dream of to win a major.
A surge of emotion erupted. McIlroy embraced his caddie Harry Diamond, gazed upward, and unleashed a roar as he raised his arms in triumph – his sixth major title solidifying his legacy as one of the sport’s greats.
