Nigel Farage has publicly accused the BBC of harboring a left-wing bias, citing the interim director of nations’ prior employment with Plaid Cymru as evidence.
In a video statement shared on X, Farage stated: “Rhuanedd Richards was the chief executive of Plaid.”
“She was employed by the Welsh government during the Labour-Plaid coalition.”
“She now serves as a director of BBC Wales, earning just over £190,000 annually.”
“This is living proof that the BBC is permeated with left-wing bias, extending to its highest levels.”
A BBC spokesperson responded, saying: “Rhuanedd Richards has been with the BBC since 2018 and has served as director of BBC Wales since 2021. She is currently the interim director for the nations.”
“Ms. Richards has always been transparent about her professional history and is fully dedicated to upholding the BBC’s impartiality.”
Richards began her career in journalism at BBC Wales before transitioning into government and politics, ultimately serving as Plaid’s chief executive from 2011 to 2016.
She returned to the BBC in 2018, assuming the role of director, or head, of BBC Wales in 2021.
Her current interim position as director of nations commenced in June of this year.
