QPR Boss Cifuentes Placed on Gardening Leave

Amid ongoing speculation regarding the Spaniard’s tenure at QPR, recent reports have connected him with a potential role at West Brom.

Queens Park Rangers have placed manager Marti Cifuentes on gardening leave, just days before their final fixture of the Championship season.

Assistant coaches Kevin Betsy and Xavi Calm are set to oversee first-team duties on an interim basis as preparations are underway for Saturday’s away match at Sunderland (12:30 BST).

QPR chief executive Christian Nourry commented: “This is understandably a disappointing outcome for everyone involved.

“I fully acknowledge and sympathise with supporters’ frustrations at this difficult moment.

“Our aim as a club is to resolve this situation promptly so that we can begin planning for the future in earnest.”

The development follows Saturday’s 5-0 defeat to Burnley, leaving QPR in 15th place in the Championship table.

Speaking prior to the game, Cifuentes emphasised the importance of alignment with the club regarding his future.

After the match, the 42-year-old stated: “I said before that as long as I’m wanted, I’m very happy here.”

Cifuentes joined QPR from Swedish side Hammarby in October 2023, taking over from Gareth Ainsworth with QPR positioned second from bottom.

He guided the team to 18th place with three successive victories at the close of last season.

However, following an unsettled campaign, the manager continues to be linked with departures from Loftus Road, with West Brom cited as the latest potential destination.
