Pulp Tops Charts After 27-Year Wait

Pulp’s new album, “More,” has debuted at number one, marking their first chart-topping achievement in 27 years. The Sheffield band hadn’t reached the top spot since their 1998 release, “This Is Hardcore.”

Their eighth studio album also secured the highest vinyl sales this week, according to the Official Charts Company.

Three new entries populated the top five this week. Alongside Pulp’s success, Addison Rae’s self-titled debut reached number two, and Little Simz’s sixth album, “Lotus,” claimed the number three position—a career high for the Mercury Prize winner.

Released on June 6th, “More” was produced by James Ford, whose credits include work with Arctic Monkeys, Florence + the Machine, and Kylie Minogue. This is Pulp’s first studio album since 2001’s “We Love Life,” which peaked at number six.

Their previous number one album was 1995’s “Different Class,” featuring the iconic single “Common People.”

Meanwhile, on the singles chart, Sabrina Carpenter secured her fourth number one, ending Alex Warren’s twelve-week reign with her track “Manchild.” This is the lead single from her forthcoming album, “Man’s Best Friend.”

“Manchild” also boasts the highest streaming numbers of the week, exceeding 6.8 million plays. Warren’s “Ordinary” held the number one spot for an unprecedented twelve weeks, setting a record for the longest-running number one single by a US artist in UK chart history.
