Prime Minister Declines to Comment on Potential Rayner Dismissal Amid Rule Breach Allegations

In a recent interview with the BBC’s Chris Mason, Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer declined to comment on whether he would dismiss Deputy Leader and Shadow Housing Secretary Angela Rayner if she is found to have violated the ministerial code regarding her tax affairs.

“Angela Rayner has referred herself to the Independent Adviser,” the Labour leader stated to Mason.

Rayner’s self-referral to Sir Laurie Magnus follows her admission of underpaying stamp duty on an £800,000 property in Hove.

Starmer expressed his expectation that the Independent Adviser’s report will be both “comprehensive” and expeditious, adding that he intends to allow the established process to “take its course.”
