During a video conference on June 16th, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted public dissatisfaction with the placement of traffic cameras.
“They only function to record violations and issue fines. These cameras should be utilized for traffic management, reducing congestion and accidents,” the president stated.
He also highlighted significant public discontent with public transportation quality and traffic congestion.
The slow pace of intersection improvements, road marking and signage updates, and the transition to smart traffic light systems drew criticism. Despite a long-standing AI-based traffic management project in the capital, tangible results remain absent.
The meeting also revealed that 61 trillion UZS has been allocated to road construction and repair over the past 7 years, primarily for international and national highways. However, 75–80 percent of fatal accidents occur on these very roads.
