Premier League to Debut In-Game Substitute Interviews

The Premier League is set to introduce live interviews with recently substituted players during ongoing matches, a first for the league.

Touchline interviews with substituted players and behind-the-scenes camera access to dressing rooms will be integrated into Premier League broadcasts beginning next season.

Additionally, camera operators will be granted brief on-field access to capture close-up footage of goal celebrations.

These innovations, initially reported by the Telegraph, external coincide with the commencement of a new four-year domestic television rights agreement.

This landmark deal, valued at £6.6 billion, will enable Sky and TNT to broadcast up to 270 live matches per season.

Official details regarding the full scope of changes to broadcast coverage are still pending confirmation from the Premier League.

BBC Sport understands that substituted players will be afforded a cool-down period before participating in touchline interviews during the game.

However, specific details concerning the frequency of these interviews during matches and the number of games affected remain undisclosed.

Dressing room access will be limited and strictly prohibited during team talks.

Such coverage is common in sports broadcasting within the United States, but has historically been less prevalent in the UK.

The new television agreement ensures the BBC will continue to broadcast Premier League highlights on Match of the Day.

The deal also incorporates Football Focus, along with expanded digital rights for the BBC’s online platforms.
