Tadej Pogacar has become the youngest rider to reach 21 Tour stage wins
Tadej Pogacar reaffirmed his dominance at the Tour de France, securing his fourth stage victory of this year’s race on Friday.
The reigning champion, who reclaimed the overall lead by winning stage 12 on Thursday, delivered another compelling performance to win the mountain time trial on stage 13.
The Slovenian, 26, completed the 10.9km route from Loudenvielle to the Peyragudes airfield in the Pyrenees in a time of precisely 23 minutes.
This was 36 seconds faster than his primary competitor, Jonas Vingegaard, extending his overall lead to four minutes and seven seconds.
World and Olympic time-trial champion Remco Evenepoel, who began the day third in the general classification, won the other time trial in this year’s Tour.
However, the Belgian was already trailing the top two when he encountered a mechanical issue, with Vingegaard overtaking him on the challenging final climb.
Despite finishing 2 minutes and 39 seconds slower than Pogacar, Evenepoel maintained his third-place position in the GC standings, though he now trails the defending champion by over seven minutes.
Primoz Roglic finished third on the day, while British cyclist Oscar Onley gained 29 seconds on Kevin Vauquelin, surpassing the Frenchman to secure fifth place overall.
