A new, one-off documentary offering an intimate look into the life of Ozzy Osbourne will premiere, showcasing what is described as “the final chapter” for the iconic musician. The film will chronicle his journey leading up to Black Sabbath’s farewell performance in Birmingham this past July.

“Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home,” filmed over a three-year period, documents the lives of the singer and his wife, Sharon, as they pursue their long-held aspiration of returning to reside in the United Kingdom.

The documentary will also unveil the Sabbath frontman’s struggles to regain his fitness for performing, along with the repercussions of his declining health. As his daughter, Kelly Osbourne, remarks in the film: “Iron man wasn’t really made of iron.”

The one-hour documentary will broadcast on BBC One on Monday, August 18th, at 21:00 BST and will simultaneously be accessible on BBC iPlayer.

Audiences will be granted “intimate” access to members of the Osbourne family, including Sharon, Kelly, and son Jack Osbourne, as the story unfolds.

Initially conceived as a series entitled “Home to Roost,” which was announced in 2022, the project evolved into a singular one-hour film due to Osbourne’s deteriorating health.

The broadcast will occur just under a month after the heavy metal icon’s passing, which followed two weeks after his final performance on stage during his homecoming gig at Villa Park.

Clare Sillery, BBC Head of Commissioning, Documentaries, stated, “We are honoured to have had the opportunity to film with Ozzy and his family.”

“The film captures an intimate glimpse into their journey as they prepare to return to the UK. It features family moments, humour, reflection and shows the enduring spirit that made Ozzy a global icon.”

“We hope it brings comfort and joy to Ozzy’s fans and viewers as they remember and celebrate his extraordinary life.”

Ben Wicks and Colin Barr, executive producers at Expectation – the production company behind the film – released a statement saying: “It was an incredible privilege to spend the last few years with Ozzy, as well as Sharon, Jack and Kelly.”

“Ozzy wanted to make it back to the UK and appear on stage one last time – our film is an inspiring and poignant account of him fulfilling that dream.”

They added: “Ozzy was loved by millions around the world not just for his music, but for his sense of mischief and his honesty all of which we saw plenty of in the final years of his life.”

“But one thing shone through even more brightly to us, and that was Ozzy’s intense love for his exceptional family who were by his side through it all.”
