Nick Reiner, Son of Rob and Michele Reiner, Charged in Parents’ Death Investigation

Los Angeles prosecutors will file murder charges against Nick Reiner, the son of Rob and Michele Reiner, the Hollywood couple found dead in their home on Sunday with multiple stab wounds.

Nick Reiner, 32, faces two counts of first-degree murder and could receive a life sentence if convicted. District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that he will be arraigned after being medically cleared by prison officials.

During a Tuesday news conference, Mr. Hochman also indicated that a decision regarding seeking the death penalty has not yet been made.

Rob Reiner is known for directing several iconic films across various genres, including “This is Spinal Tap,” “Misery,” and “A Few Good Men.”

Michele Singer Reiner was an actress, photographer, and producer, as well as the founder of Reiner Light, a photography agency and production company.

Their son, Nick Reiner, faces two counts of first-degree murder “with a special circumstance of multiple murders,” according to Hochman. This enhancement could lead to a more severe sentence if he is convicted.

District Attorney Hochman added that the suspect is also accused of using a “dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife.”

The suspect is currently undergoing medical evaluations to ensure his fitness to attend court. He is expected to appear before a judge later on Tuesday for an arraignment hearing, where he will be formally charged and given the opportunity to enter a plea.

LA Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell also spoke during the news conference, emphasizing the widespread impact of the case.

“This case is heartbreaking and deeply personal, not only for the Reiner family and their loved ones, but for the entire city,” he said.

“We extend our deepest condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy.”

During the news conference, officials declined to elaborate on how the suspect was located, attributing his arrest to “good, solid police work.”

District Attorney Hochman noted that it is premature to determine whether “mental illness” played a role in the crime, suggesting it could be raised during the trial.

“If there is evidence of mental illness, it will appear in court, in whatever details the defense seeks to present,” he stated.
