Newly Inaugurated Bridge Suffers Partial Collapse in China

A newly inaugurated bridge in Sichuan province, southwestern China, has suffered a partial collapse, generating a significant dust cloud.

The Hongqi bridge, measuring 758 meters (2,486 feet) in length, had been closed by authorities on Monday following the emergence of cracks on adjacent slopes and roadways.

Officials reported that conditions on the mountainside deteriorated further on Tuesday afternoon, leading to landslides that ultimately caused the partial structural failure of the bridge.

No casualties have been reported in connection with the incident.

According to a social media announcement by the contractors, Sichuan Road and Bridge Group, construction of the bridge was completed earlier this year.
