Nationwide Two-Day Clean-Up Campaign to be Held in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is set to hold a nationwide благотворительный хашар (charity event) on August 22-23. The announcement was made in a resolution by the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to the document, the event will involve improvement works in махалляs (local communities), settlements, apartment buildings, courtyards, гузарs (community centers), parks, pilgrimage sites, cemeteries, streets, sidewalks, and playgrounds, including whitewashing and tree trimming.

Assistance will be provided to improve the housing conditions of vulnerable populations, including low-income individuals, those in need of care, elderly people who have lost their providers, and citizens with disabilities.

Waste collected during the improvement efforts will be transported to designated areas by local executive authorities and other responsible organizations.

However, it is strictly prohibited to independently carry out work on highways, streets with heavy traffic, bodies of water, coastal areas, construction sites, roofs of buildings and structures, hazardous production facilities, and other locations where there is a risk to human life or health.

In accordance with the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers “On additional measures to eradicate forced labor in the Republic of Uzbekistan,” during the хашар, it is forbidden to involve the population in other types of public works, including construction, repair, and agricultural activities.
