Muir Clinches X Games Slopestyle Victory for Great Britain

Kirsty Muir has secured two World Cup victories this season.

British freestyle skier Kirsty Muir delivered a statement performance ahead of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy, claiming gold in the freeski slopestyle event at the X Games in Aspen.

The 21-year-old Scottish athlete established an impressive benchmark with a score of 93.66 on her first of three runs, a standard that her competitors were unable to surpass, securing her first gold medal at the prestigious event.

Canada’s Naomi Urness took silver with a score of 85.00, while Mathilde Grimaud of Switzerland earned the bronze medal with 80.00.

Muir further demonstrated her prowess by clinching silver in the big air competition with a score of 94.00. Grimaud, 25, this time emerged victorious with 94.66, followed by Canadian Megan Oldham, 24, who secured the bronze with 90.66.

The freeski slopestyle event was postponed by 24 hours due to adverse weather conditions in Colorado. Muir’s victory marks Great Britain’s third title at this year’s X Games, following previous wins by Mia Brookes and Zoe Atkin.

“This is an absolute dream come true,” Muir expressed.

“This morning, my goal was to execute that run, and to walk away with gold, I am incredibly excited.”

“I really wanted to improve [over the next two runs] but I had a couple of mistakes – but I’m so excited because I’ve missed X Games so much. To come here and win is insane.”

Muir, who was the youngest member of Team GB at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics at the age of 17, had previously taken a year-long hiatus from competition starting in late 2023 due to knee and shoulder surgeries.
