Mason Mount has made only 31 league appearances for Manchester United in his first two seasons, largely due to persistent injury issues.
Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has stated that qualifying for European competition is “the focus” for the team this season.
The 2025-26 season is poised to be only the second campaign without European football for United since the UEFA ban on English clubs in the 1980s, following the Heysel Stadium disaster.
After finishing 15th in the league last season and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham, Old Trafford will be without European matches for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
“Europe is a massive, massive thing for us,” Mount affirmed.
“The Champions League would be amazing for us, and as a group, we aspire to compete in that competition.
“But I’d say Europe. I think that’s the focus.”
Ruben Amorim’s squad will need to improve upon their 2024-25 performance, where they concluded 23 points behind seventh-placed Nottingham Forest, who secured the final European qualifying spot based on league position.
Manchester United have already invested over £125 million in acquiring forwards Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
They are also reportedly interested in signing additional strikers, with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins being the latest subject of speculation, following earlier rumors of a potential move for Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson.
Both transfer scenarios have involved the potential departure of out-of-favor winger Alejandro Garnacho.
However, sources within Manchester United maintain that no deal is imminent, and Aston Villa have privately stated that Watkins will not be leaving the club.
The club has traveled to the United States for their three-match Premier League Summer Series campaign, featuring games against West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton.
Meanwhile, Garnacho, along with fellow players Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, are training with club staff at United’s Carrington training complex.
Real Betis remain interested in bringing Antony back to the club following a successful loan spell last season, while Juventus are keen on Sancho but need to free up space in their squad before pursuing any potential agreement.
