Joaquin Moro’s brace propelled Leicester Tigers to a commanding bonus-point victory over Newcastle Red Bulls in Premiership action. The winless Red Bulls succumbed at Kingston
Park.
Flanker James Thompson initiated the scoring for the visitors, touching down for the first try. Shortly thereafter, Moro, Leicester’s Argentinian No. 8, exploited a gap at the breakdown and surged 30 meters to score.
England full-back Freddie Steward extended the Tigers’ lead after the interval, while Moro’s second try, a blistering run through the defense, secured the bonus point.
Tommy Reffell added a fifth try for Leicester, capping off their dominant performance.
Newcastle, despite tries from full-back Ethan Grayson and replacement Richard Palframan, remain without a point after six league games.
Leicester’s fourth win of the season elevated them to fourth place in the table, pending Saracens’ match against Bath. The game remained competitive for 55 minutes, with Newcastle keeping within striking distance.
Billy Searle’s penalty opened the scoring for Leicester, followed by Adam Radwan’s break down the wing, leading to Thompson’s try.
A yellow card for Hassell-Collins for a high tackle on Grayson allowed Newcastle to score, as a scrum penalty set up Grayson’s try.
Radwan’s claim of the restart and Newcastle’s defensive lapse at the breakdown allowed Moro to score, bringing the score to 17-10 at halftime after Connon’s penalty.
The second half saw both teams battle between the 22s until Leicester extended their lead with a third try.
Searle’s cross-kick found Hassell-Collins, who sprinted to the 22, before finding Radwan and finally giving Steward a walk-in.
A penalty from Connon gave Newcastle an opportunity, but a penalty at the line-out cost them.
Leicester secured victory with a bonus-point try with eight minutes remaining.
James O’Connor’s return kick set up Hassell-Collins and Moro’s try from 30 meters.
Palframan scored a late try for Newcastle, but Reffell’s try sealed Leicester’s win.
