Monzo Resolves Mobile App Outage

Monzo has reported the resolution of an issue that impacted its mobile banking application on Tuesday afternoon, following widespread reports of access difficulties from thousands of customers.

Downdetector, a platform monitoring service outages, registered over 4,000 user reports detailing problems shortly after 15:00 GMT.

Earlier, the company acknowledged the app issue, informing users attempting access that it would “not be fully functional” pending investigation.

A Monzo spokesperson stated, “customers can now use the app as normal.”

They told the BBC: “For a short period today, we activated Monzo Stand-in – our fully independent backup bank – while we investigated an issue.”

“Customers were always able to make payments with their card, withdraw cash, freeze their card and send and receive bank transfers.”

Many users attempting to access the app after 15:00 GMT on Tuesday encountered a notification stating “we’re experiencing issues”.

This notice indicated that while the app would not function as normal, services such as viewing account details and transferring funds between accounts would remain available.

However, some users took to social media to voice complaints to Monzo regarding their inability to view funds, recent transactions, or make bank transfers.

According to posts seen by the BBC, some X users also informed Monzo of their inability to use their cards or withdraw cash.

The BBC has requested comment from Monzo regarding these complaints.

The company serves over 14 million personal and business customers across the UK.

Monzo has previously emphasized its backup banking infrastructure as a mechanism for preventing large-scale outages and service disruptions for customers, contrasting with the widespread outages experienced by other UK banks last year.

Approximately 1.2 million individuals in the UK were affected by banking outages occurring on what was pay day for many in early 2025.
