Miley Cyrus Expresses Lack of Interest in Touring

Miley Cyrus has stated she has “no desire” to embark on a concert tour, just weeks after the release of her ninth studio album.

The American singer cited the challenges of maintaining sobriety and mental well-being while on tour as key deterrents.

It has been over a decade since Cyrus’s last major tour in support of her album *Bangerz* in 2014, leaving fans disappointed by her lack of plans for future performances.

In an interview with *Good Morning America*, the artist behind hits like “Flowers” and “Party in the U.S.A.” expressed her sentiment that there is insufficient support for artists during touring.

“I do have the physical ability, and I have the opportunities to tour,” she told the US show on Tuesday.

“I wish I had the desire, but I don’t.”

She also noted that it is “really hard to maintain sobriety when you’re out on the road,” which is “a really important pillar of stability in my life.”

Cyrus released her latest album, *Something Beautiful*, at the end of May. While she has refrained from touring, she has made stage appearances, including a performance alongside Beyoncé during her *Cowboy Carter* show in Paris last month.

Her remarks regarding touring follow her revelation in an Apple Music podcast about a rare condition affecting her vocal cords.

She explained that the condition, known as Reinke’s edema, presents touring challenges due to its tendency to cause “ultimate vocal fry.”

Phoebe Ross, who identifies as a devoted Cyrus fan since the age of five, had the opportunity to meet her idol earlier this year when Greg James surprised her on his Radio 1 Breakfast show.

Learning that she will not have the chance to see Cyrus perform live is “disappointing,” the 20-year-old told BBC Newsbeat.

“But obviously her reasoning is very valid.”

“Millions of fans are going to be disappointed, but at the end of the day you’ve got to think she’s putting herself first for a reason,” she said.

“With touring there’s so much pressure and so much stress. She’s doing what she thinks is right.”

“I think as fans we’ve got to back that.”

However, fan Monica Taylor expressed that Cyrus’s decision is particularly disheartening “for those that have been lifelong fans and never had the chance to see her,” given the extended hiatus from touring.

“I think the interview just kind of felt like she doesn’t want to do anything,” she said, adding that she remains hopeful the singer might consider a shorter tour or festival appearances.

“I think all of us are holding out hope on that.”

For emerging artists like Romz, a 25-year-old rapper and singer from London, the prospect of not wanting to tour is difficult to comprehend.

“Performing in front of thousands of people every night, personally that’s my dream,” she told Newsbeat, emphasizing the importance of touring for fostering a connection with fans.

“But, I get it for artists that have done it for so long that it can take a toll on their mental health,” Romz added.

“Every artist has a different mindset, and maybe Miley, she’s like it’s just not for me and that’s completely OK.”

Romz concurred with Cyrus’s sentiment that there should be “a more caring system” for artists on tour, stating that artist well-being is often overlooked.

“I wish to do shows like [Miley] in the future but I’ve only done gigs at the moment around London,” she said.

“So I don’t actually know how it feels to do a show in front of 20-30,000 fans every single night.”
