Milan Victorious in Stage 17 Sprint Finish

Jonathan Milan previously secured victory on stage eight.

Jonathan Milan has triumphed in stage 17 with a commanding sprint finish, marking his second stage win in this year’s Tour de France.

The 160.4km stage from Bollene to Valence was widely anticipated to culminate in a bunch sprint, and with just 4km remaining, the peloton successfully reeled in the last rider from a determined four-man breakaway.

The final 30km were marked by heavy rainfall, and the closing kilometre saw Milan’s sprint rivals, Tim Merlier and Biniam Girmay, caught up in a crash.

Milan subsequently demonstrated superior strength, outpacing Jordi Meeus and solidifying his lead in the points classification, earning him the green jersey.

The 24-year-old Lidl-Trek rider has extended his advantage by 61 points, now holding a 72-point lead over reigning champion Tadej Pogacar.

Pogacar, donning the yellow jersey, completed the stage safely within the peloton, ensuring no alterations to the general classification’s top 10. The three-time Tour winner retains his overall race lead by four minutes and 15 seconds.
