Sam Coffey has made almost 100 appearances for Portland Thorns
Manchester City are reportedly finalizing an agreement to acquire United States midfielder Sam Coffey from Portland Thorns.
Sources indicate that City are set to pay a fee in the region of $800,000 (£600,000) for Coffey, whose contract with the Thorns extends through the 2027 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season.
The 27-year-old has been a target for City for several months, with the club having previously made an approach during the summer transfer window.
Terms are understood to be agreed, and reports, external suggest Coffey, widely considered among the premier defensive midfielders globally, has been granted permission to travel to England to complete the transfer to the Women’s Super League leaders.
Coffey has represented the USA national team on 42 occasions and has amassed nearly 100 appearances for Portland Thorns over a four-year tenure.
