Police have announced that a man has been charged in connection with the theft of floral tributes left in Birmingham for Ozzy Osbourne.

Following Osbourne’s death on July 22, at the age of 76, reportedly from a heart attack, a significant number of floral tributes, cards, and other mementos were placed at and around a city centre bench commemorating the formation of the iconic heavy metal band Black Sabbath, of which Osbourne was the celebrated frontman.

West Midlands Police have identified the accused as Parviz Jafari, 45, who faces a theft charge and is scheduled to appear before magistrates on September 3.

Law enforcement officials stated that Jafari was apprehended on August 2 after authorities were alerted to a theft occurring at the Broad Street location.

Birmingham City Council initiated the collection of tributes on Monday, with the intention of handing them over to the Osbourne family.

According to the council, the collected items are to be gathered at a secure, undisclosed location for documentation and collation before being presented to the family.

Reportedly, some of the flowers will be scattered at his graveside.

The Osbourne family previously viewed the outpouring of public affection during a procession on July 30, as the music legend’s body was conveyed through his hometown for a final farewell.

Black Sabbath performed their final concert at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5, less than three weeks prior to Osbourne’s passing.

It was announced on Thursday that the BBC will broadcast a documentary chronicling the concluding chapter of the singer’s illustrious life.
