Lewandowski Reportedly in Discussions for Potential Chicago Fire Transfer

Robert Lewandowski boasts an impressive record of 10 Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

Chicago Fire have reportedly engaged in positive discussions with Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski regarding a potential move to Major League Soccer.

The Polish international’s contract at Spotify Camp Nou concludes at the end of the current season, and Fire are keen to secure the 37-year-old’s signature next summer.

Sources have indicated to BBC Sport that Lewandowski is receptive to the prospect of joining the MLS, with his wage demands not anticipated to pose a significant obstacle.

While he retains other options, including a possible extension with Barcelona and interest from the Saudi Pro League, a transfer to MLS remains a distinct possibility.

Chicago Fire, who recently qualified for the MLS play-offs for the first time since 2017, have placed Lewandowski on their ‘discovery list.’ This designation grants them exclusive negotiating rights within the league, preventing other clubs from signing him without compensating Fire.

Inter Miami has also been mentioned as a potential destination; however, they are restricted from engaging with Lewandowski while he remains on Fire’s discovery list. This situation positions Chicago as the frontrunner should he elect to continue his career in the United States.

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami currently has a designated player slot available following Jordi Alba’s retirement after their historic MLS Cup triumph against Vancouver earlier this month.

Fire, who previously expressed interest in Neymar and Kevin de Bruyne earlier this year, have reportedly prioritized Lewandowski for at least six months. This strategic approach aligns with Chicago’s significant Polish community.

Notably, the former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund star’s wife, Anna, visited Chicago last month during her time in the United States.

Lewandowski has amassed 109 goals in 164 appearances for Barcelona, securing two La Liga titles since his arrival in 2022 on a four-year contract.

This season, he has recorded eight goals in 17 appearances, contributing to his team’s four-point lead at the top of La Liga.
