Liam Livingstone was dismissed for 29 during Lancashire’s T20 Blast semi-final defeat against Somerset.
Lancashire Cricket has condemned “misogynistic comments” circulating on social media following Liam Livingstone’s contentious dismissal in their semi-final loss to Somerset at the T20 Vitality Blast Finals Day.
Livingstone was adjudged lbw by on-field umpire James Middlebrook, a decision upheld by third umpire Sue Redfern after the England international reviewed the call, claiming an inside edge.
Subsequent to the decision, a number of social media users criticised Redfern’s judgment and questioned the appropriateness of a female official serving as third umpire in a men’s match.
“While the club remains deeply frustrated and disappointed with the decision, Lancashire is equally clear that it does not condone the misogynistic comments that have appeared across social media in response,” the club stated on X., external
“Such behaviour is unacceptable, does not reflect the values of our club or the wider Red Rose family, and has no place in the game.”
In the same statement, Lancashire also confirmed they have lodged a formal complaint with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) regarding the decision that led to Livingstone’s dismissal for 29.
The club articulated that they have “formally expressed disappointment” to the sport’s governing body.
