Kyrgyzstan has removed a 23-meter statue of Vladimir Lenin in Osh. Local media report on the event.
Erected in 1975, the statue was the tallest Lenin monument in Central Asia, weighing 7.5 tons.
According to the Osh city administration, as reported, a 95-meter flagpole with the national flag will replace the monument.
The removal took place overnight on June 7th. The Osh mayor’s office emphasizes that the situation shouldn’t be “politicized,” citing examples of Russian cities removing or relocating Lenin statues. The action is presented as “standard practice aimed at improving the city’s architectural and aesthetic landscape.”
