Killer Whale Cameras Capture Unprecedented Footage of Cooperative Hunting with Dolphins

Scientists have documented rare footage showing killer whales and Pacific white-sided dolphins engaging in cooperative hunting behaviors off the coast of British Columbia, Canada.

Despite being commonly known as ‘killer whales,’ orcas are, in fact, the largest species within the dolphin family.

According to researchers, these findings, which were published in the journal *Nature Scientific Reports*, represent the first documented evidence of collaborative hunting between the two species.

The study involved the use of drones and camera tags to observe and analyze the feeding behaviors of these marine mammals.

“Not only were the killer whales orienting [themselves] towards the dolphins at the surface, but when the dolphins started to dive, our tagged killer whales would start to dive,” explained lead researcher Dr. Sarah Fortune from Dalhousie University in Canada.
