Jamie Borthwick’s Long Run on EastEnders Ends After 19 Years

Jamie Borthwick, a long-standing cast member, has reportedly been dismissed from the BBC’s *EastEnders* after 19 years with the program.

Borthwick, 31, played the character Jay Brown, having first appeared in Albert Square in 2006 and becoming one of the soap’s most familiar faces.

Earlier this year, the actor faced suspension from the BBC following the use of a derogatory term towards individuals with disabilities on the set of *Strictly Come Dancing*, as previously reported.

A spokesperson for BBC Studios stated: “We can confirm that Jamie Borthwick will not be returning to EastEnders. We do not comment on individual matters.”

BBC News has reached out to Borthwick’s representatives for comment.

According to reports from The Mirror, Borthwick was scheduled to resume filming this month after his suspension.

However, sources indicate that his contract has now been terminated.

In June, the BBC addressed the prior incident, stating that his language on the set of *Strictly* was “entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect.”

Borthwick, who participated in the 20th-anniversary series of *Strictly* last year, issued an apology at the time, expressing regret for “any offence and upset” caused.

Disability advocacy group Scope has urged Borthwick to consider his actions and seek further understanding.

Warren Kirwan, the organization’s media manager, commented, “We hope he takes the opportunity to get to know the reality of disabled people’s lives.”

Borthwick gained prominence through his portrayal of Jay Brown (formerly Mitchell) in *EastEnders*.

His performances have garnered recognition, including a British Soap Award for best dramatic performance from a young actor and an Inside Soap Award for best actor.

Most recently, the actor competed in *Strictly*, partnered with professional dancer Michelle Tsiakkas.

This followed his victory in the 2023 Christmas special, marking a return to the ballroom.
