Tehran Parliament Aims to Halt Cooperation with IAEA
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf announced today that the parliament intends to approve a bill suspending cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to Trend, this decision follows concerns over the IAEA’s conduct and alleged failure to uphold its obligations. The suspension will remain in effect until concrete guarantees of professional behavior from the agency are provided.
Ghalibaf emphasized Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, stating that the IAEA has become a political tool. He highlighted the alleged role of the IAEA in facilitating attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities by providing inaccurate reports and sensitive information to adversarial parties. He described the US attacks on Iranian nuclear sites as attacks on international structures due to the IAEA’s failure to prevent them.
It’s important to note that on June 13th, Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian territory resulting in numerous casualties, including high-ranking military officials. In retaliation, Iran reportedly launched over 150 ballistic missiles and 100 drones against Tel Aviv and other Israeli areas, causing civilian casualties and significant damage.
Furthermore, on June 22nd, the US Air Force reportedly conducted strikes targeting three Iranian nuclear facilities, resulting in their alleged destruction.
