Iran Extends Airspace Closure

BAKU /Trend/ – Iranian authorities have extended the ban on domestic and international flights in the country’s northern, western, and southern regions until June 30.

According to Trend News Agency, this announcement was made by Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Majid Akhvan.

He stated that the flight ban is in effect until 14:00 local time.

This decision follows earlier reports of escalating tensions, including alleged Israeli airstrikes on Iran on June 13. These strikes reportedly resulted in numerous casualties, including high-ranking military officials such as Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Bagheri, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Hossein Salami, two commanders of the “Khatam al-Anbiya” Headquarters – Golamali Rashid and Ali Shadmani, Commander of the IRGC Air Force Amir Ali Hajizadeh, as well as nine nuclear scientists and other individuals.

In response, Iran reportedly launched over 150 ballistic missiles and over 100 drones towards Tel Aviv and other areas in Israel, causing civilian casualties and significant damage.

On June 22, reports emerged of U.S. Air Force airstrikes targeting nuclear facilities in Iran, allegedly destroying those facilities.

“We completed our very successful attack on three nuclear sites in Iran including Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. All planes are now out of Iranian airspace. Full load of bombs dropped on main Fordow site. All planes safely returning home!” stated U.S. President Donald Trump in a social media post.

Subsequently, on the evening of June 23, Iran reportedly launched airstrikes on a U.S. military base in Qatar.

On June 24, a temporary ceasefire was announced between the parties, reportedly brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump.
