Another stain has been added to the political history of the United States, Iranian Ambassador to the UN Amir Said Iravani declared at a Security Council meeting, according to Trend.
He condemned recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, accusing Washington of initiating an “unjustified war” on behalf of Israel.
“This aggression by the US and the Israeli regime is a clear and flagrant violation of international law,” he stressed, citing breaches of Article 2.4 of the UN Charter, numerous Security Council resolutions, and the NPT. “Once again, the world has witnessed the blatant corruption of the US political system and its leaders,” he noted.
Despite the escalation, Iravani stated that Iran will carefully determine its response: “The timing, nature, and scale of Iran’s proportionate response will be determined by its armed forces.”
He also rejected accusations of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, calling them “unfounded, lacking legal basis, and politically motivated.” According to him, Iran was preparing for a new round of nuclear program negotiations scheduled for June 15th, but Israel launched its strike two days prior. “Israel chose to end diplomacy,” Iravani declared. “How can Iran return to something it never left?”
In closing, the ambassador warned that the US, UK, France, and the IAEA Director General “will bear full responsibility” for civilian casualties and infrastructure destruction.
