A camera documenting the ongoing eruption of a Hawaiian volcano was overtaken by lava, succumbing to ash and ceasing transmission.
Footage released by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) shows the camera feed experiencing glitches and interruptions before ultimately cutting out amidst the volcanic activity.
The USGS reported lava fountains reaching heights of approximately 30 meters (100 feet) at Kilauea, located within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, on Saturday.
Kilauea, recognized as one of the world’s most active volcanoes, has been experiencing intermittent eruptions since December of last year.
The vehicle was travelling along Ohio’s I-70, with the dramatic collision occurring in Columbus last Thursday.
According to the United States Geological Survey, this is the 37th eruption episode since December 2024.
