Grace Harris propelled London Spirit to victory once again, guiding them through a tense chase of 123 against Manchester Originals at Old Trafford.

The defending champions, fresh from a final-ball thriller on Saturday, have now secured three wins in as many games this year. Despite a stuttering start that saw them at 56-3 after 59 balls, Australia’s Harris struck an unbeaten 50, steering the Spirit to a three-wicket victory with two balls to spare.

After shifting the momentum with a flurry of boundaries, Harris lost the strike towards the end, and Kathryn Bryce dismissed Issy Wong and Charlie Dean in quick succession.

With nine needed from the final six balls, Sarah Glenn, who had earlier delivered a tidy spell of 1-18, edged the hat-trick ball for four and then drove home the winning runs to finish on 10 not out.

Earlier, consistent wicket-taking from the Spirit restricted the Originals to a below-par total.

The hosts were reeling at 10-2 when New Zealand’s Melie Kerr was run out for one, and Spirit captain Dean curtailed a counter-attack of 26 from 20 balls by Originals skipper Beth Mooney.

West Indies international Deandra Dottin boosted the score with 36 from 30 balls, eventually being caught at deep mid-wicket on the final delivery of the innings.

The Originals remain fifth in the standings with one win and two defeats from their first three matches, trailing the leading Spirit by eight points.

Harris, who smashed an unbeaten 89 in the tournament opener, reclaimed her position at the top of the run-scoring charts during this innings.

Having bowled the final five balls to secure victory against Welsh Fire on Saturday, she has once again played a pivotal role in maintaining the Spirit’s winning streak.

The dynamic all-rounder started cautiously, scoring only 11 from her first 16 balls, but found the boundary whenever the pressure mounted.

The Spirit required 67 from 41 balls after Kira Chathli’s dismissal, at which point Harris lifted New Zealand leg-spinner Kerr over mid-off to break an 18-ball boundary drought. She followed this up by driving England international spinner Sophie Ecclestone for four two balls later, shifting the momentum in her team’s favour.

With 42 needed from 22, Dottin bowled Harris a high full toss that was dispatched for four. The Australian then flicked the subsequent free-hit for six.

She could have been caught for 43, but Alice Monaghan could only parry a difficult chance over the boundary for six, effectively sealing the game despite Bryce’s late double strike.
