Gyokeres Injury: Arteta Voices Concern for Arsenal

Viktor Gyokeres has scored four goals in the Premier League this season

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed “concern” regarding the muscle injury sustained by Viktor Gyokeres during their 2-0 victory against Burnley.

Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal in a £64m summer transfer, opened the scoring on Saturday but was substituted at half-time.

The 27-year-old striker, with four Premier League goals this season, has been absent from training since the Burnley match and will miss Tuesday’s Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague (17:45 GMT).

“No, he’s definitely not available,” Arteta confirmed to BBC Sport when questioned about Gyokeres’ inclusion in the squad.

“He hasn’t trained today. Further tests and scans are required in the coming days to ascertain the full extent of the injury. He is unavailable.”

Asked if the injury was a short-term issue for the Swedish international, Arteta’s response was not encouraging.

“I am concerned, as he has not had many muscular problems previously, and the fact he had to leave the pitch suggests an issue,” Arteta stated.

“This is never a positive sign, particularly for a player with such explosive power.

“We are investigating further to fully understand the nature of the injury and will provide an update as soon as possible.”

Arteta also noted that “seven” Arsenal players are currently sidelined due to injury, including forwards Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Noni Madueke, and Gabriel Jesus.
