The ITV crime drama “Grantchester,” named after a Cambridgeshire village, will conclude after its 11th series.
Robson Green stars as Det Insp Geordie Keating in “Grantchester,” assisting in solving crimes alongside vicar Alphy Kottaram, portrayed by Rishi Nair. The setting is the village near Cambridge.
Based on the novels by James Runcie, the series initially featured James Norton (“Happy Valley”) as vicar Sidney Chambers. Tom Brittney later joined as the new clergyman, Will Davenport.
Green, 60, expressed gratitude, stating it “been an honour to share in the magic of Grantchester” and he was “forever grateful for the memories, the friendships, and the love”.
He further acknowledged Emma Kingsman Lloyd (executive producer) and Daisy Coulam (writer and series creator), thanking them for the “extraordinary opportunity to be part of this experience”.
Nair, 34, stated: “It’s been the greatest honour to step into the world of Grantchester and be part of a show with so much heart.”
He is set to begin filming his third series, where his character will delve into his past and further develop his relationship with Meg, the bishop’s daughter.
Meanwhile, the chief superintendent presents Geordie with an offer that could potentially end his crime-solving partnership with the village vicar.
ITV’s director of drama, Polly Hill, and drama commissioner, Callum Dziedzic, commented: “It’s rare to create a series with such enduring warmth, wit, and heart, as Daisy, Emma, and the brilliant team have done with Grantchester.”
They added, “This final series marks the end of a golden chapter for ITV drama, and we know audiences will treasure this last summer in Grantchester as much as we will.”
The show premiered in 2014 and garnered an average of 6.6 million viewers during its first series, which was set in the 1950s.
Filming for the final series is scheduled to commence shortly, but ITV has yet to confirm when the 10th series will be screened.
