Gibbs-White Extends Nottingham Forest Contract

Gibbs-White has scored 18 goals and provided 28 assists in 118 games for Nottingham Forest

Morgan Gibbs-White has affirmed his commitment to Nottingham Forest, stating his desire to be “part of something special” after signing a new three-year contract with the club.

The 25-year-old midfielder’s future had been subject to speculation following reported interest from Tottenham.

Earlier this month, BBC Sport reported that Gibbs-White was reportedly set to undergo a medical with Spurs, who were considering activating a £60m release clause in his contract.

However, Forest had been contemplating legal action against the North London club, investigating a potential breach of a confidentiality agreement related to the release clause.

In a social media announcement of the contract extension, Nottingham Forest described it as a “record deal” for the club.

Gibbs-White had two years remaining on his previous contract, having joined Forest from Wolves in August 2022 in a deal worth up to £42.5m.

During his 118 appearances for the Reds, he has contributed 18 goals and 28 assists, playing a key role in the club’s seventh-place finish last season and subsequent qualification for European competition.

“I’ve felt at home at Forest from the moment I arrived,” Gibbs-White stated. “The support from the fans, my team-mates, and everyone around the club has been unbelievable.

“I believe in what we’re building here – and with the backing of [owner] Mr Marinakis and the enormous ambition he has, I want to be part of making something special. I’m excited for what’s to come.”

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis commented: “There was significant interest from various clubs, but we were determined to build our future with Morgan at the heart of it.

“I promised our fans we would not only compete, but grow stronger and stronger every season. Today is another big step in that journey.”

Earlier this month, sources informed BBC Sport that Forest were displeased with Tottenham’s conduct in their pursuit of the England international, emphasizing that the threat of legal action was credible.

Reportedly, Forest maintained that they had not granted Spurs permission to engage in discussions with Gibbs-White and were prepared to take all necessary measures to prevent the transfer.

Premier League regulations stipulate that clubs must obtain permission before engaging in talks with players under contract with another team.

Despite the speculation, Gibbs-White returned to pre-season training as scheduled and participated in friendly matches against Monaco and Fulham.
